Cookie Diet Revealed

Dr. Siegal's® COOKIE DIET

The Cookie Diet - What's It All About?

Lose weight by eating cookies? Sound too good to be true. Well, it may not be.

While there are several different types of cookie weight loss diets, the most popular - and original cookie weight loss plan - is Dr Siegal's cookie diet. It was created in 1975 and since then, this diet has helped over 500,000 people lose weight

The cookies are made with a special amino acid protein blend that helps to control hunger.

You eat 6 cookies throughout the day (3 for breakfast, 3 for lunch) followed by a sensible dinner. You can also substitute a shake for the cookies to give some more variety.

While this diet isn't one that you can use over the long term it does take off weight pretty quickly - and you feel as if you're 'cheating' every day by eating cookies.

How The Diet Works:

You eat 3 cookies for breakfast, 3 for lunch, followed by a sensible dinner. Dr Siegal's cookies contain a special protein blend that helps stave off hunger - and can help rev your metabolism.

You could also substitute a shake instead of cookies - or use the cookies as snacks in conjunction with another low calorie diet plan.

Cookies come in a variety of flavors including Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate, Blueberry, Banana and Coconut. The shakes come in Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Crème Brulee, and Pina Colada.

How Does It Rate?

Is It Fast?

Since this is a calorie controlled diet (about 1000 - 1200 calories per day), you can lose weight pretty quickly (up to 20 pounds a month or up to 5 pounds per week).

However it does depend on how closely you follow the plan and how active you are.

Is It Easy To Follow?

The cookies come prepackaged and ready to eat. All you have to do is prepare your sensible dinner. So yes, it's pretty easy to follow.

And the special protein blend in the cookies helps to keep you full throughout the day.

Is It Safe?

This diet isn't necessarily balanced - and it's recommended you have a lot of vegetables and lean protein for dinner.

Also note that the diet wouldn't be appropriate for vegetarians since there is animal protein in the cookies.

Finally, this diet is really more of a short term plan - you shouldn't expect to stay on it for long periods of time.

Does It Permit 'Treats'?

It does permit cookies and that may be enough to make you feel like you're not really 'dieting'.

Is There Support?

No. But you can get a book from Dr. Siegal's website that outlines the diet in full.

Final Grade: C

The Cookie diet has some good things going for it including fast weight loss and, well, cookies. You may feel like you're getting your sweets - and still losing weight.

However, it's really not meant to be used for long periods of time and there's not a lot of online support tools available.
